Prescription For Improvement
Many American managers are looking for a prescription for improvement. Many advocates are trying to sell a prescription. There is none—only models for insights that most people are not trained to see.
After all, what you cannot see, or see clearly, is the biggest threat to growth, survival, and the future.
George Box said, “All models are wrong, some are useful”. What he was saying is no model or approach to solving a problem is perfect, but some can still be helpful in making important decisions. The reality is that every model has limitations and assumptions built into it, which may not completely reflect the complexity of real-world situations.
However, when we use models responsibly and understand their limitations, they can still provide valuable insights.
So go out there. Learn a model for managing your organization. Gain insights. Test the model in your situation. Adopt what you find useful. Rinse and repeat.
